What is a Blended Learning Solution?

Blended Learning (or Multi-Modal Learning as it is also known as) is an approach to learning & development that combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction in a digital format, with traditional place-based classroom methodologies.

It requires the physical presence of both teacher and student, with some elements of student control over time, place, path &/or pace.

A Blended Learning Solution for today’s organisations encompasses a range of different learning methods and mechanisms e.g. face-to-face or ‘live’ classroom training; virtual classroom workshops via video tools such as Zoom or Skype; webinars; seminars; podcasts and vodcasts; telephone or video 1:1 coaching; simulations; online testing & assessment; polls, surveys & quizzes and gamification.

While there is a myriad of research emerging about the comparisons and related benefits of blending learning versus traditional methodologies, it appears that the ULTIMATE test of effectiveness in retaining, enhancing and evolving the learning journey, lies in the competence, confidence and charisma of the ‘real’ teacher i.e. the human being coordinating that learning journey (both on & offline), to ensure a positive, dynamic learning experience for all parties.


Why is that?

Because the fact remains…84% of any human experience is emotional – and we can only truly FEEL the benefits of our learning experience if we’ve been emotionally connected to it…

i.e. with the person coordinating and supporting our learning journey.

Success – in business and life – is based on developing meaningful relationships that result in a win-win. Relationships are much easier to form and are stronger and more fulfilling when they’re made with a real human being, rather than a machine, hence why the digital learning world &/or the emergence of AI will NEVER wholly replace the role of the live teacher, be they in person or on camera via the virtual classroom!
